Mistral Le Chat
Get AI chat, research, and image generation from a Paris-based company that keeps your data in the EU.

by Switch-to.eu
Le Chat is Mistral AI's consumer assistant. The Paris-based company was founded in 2023, and the product does what you'd expect from a ChatGPT competitor: answer questions, write text, analyze documents, generate images, run code. Everything runs on EU servers under French data protection law.
On the free tier you get about 25 messages per day on mid-range models, plus Flash Answers for quick lookups. Pro ($14.99/month) lifts that cap and turns on No Telemetry Mode, so your prompts stay out of model training entirely. Students pay roughly half.
Deep Research stands out. It browses the web, cross-references sources, and builds structured reports you can export. Web search pulls from AFP-verified news, which keeps results more reliable than a raw internet crawl. Image generation uses Black Forest Labs' Flux model for both creating and editing visuals.
Mistral publishes its models as open-weight downloads. If you need full data control, you can run the same models on your own servers instead of relying on the hosted service.
Worth knowing
Free tier conversations may feed back into model training. The Pro plan fixes that with No Telemetry Mode. In 2025, a complaint was filed with CNIL (France's data authority) over limited opt-out options on the free version. That case is still open. On niche or deeply technical topics, answers can lag behind ChatGPT and Claude, but day-to-day speed and general quality hold up well.
